Social Media in Marketing

Social medias have become a very fast and cost effective way, especially for small businesses to market to the masses. Studies have shown hat nearly 3/4 of small businesses have turned to some form o social media for marketing.
As a bartender you have the opportunity to market your company and yourself to build sales and customer loyalty. We put together  a small study of our own for two weeks at the bar. The first  week the bartenders used only one form of social media to bring in their customers, then he second week we used multiple social media sites to see the difference. Then as the customers came in we asked if it was social media that brought them in. By doing this our salted almost tripled in just a week. As satisfied customers committed on our postings and made more of their own at their preferred site e have found a system to boost our own tips and sales for the company.
There can be downsides to using mostly social media as well. Bad reviews by unsatisfied customers can sometimes be hard to remedy or properly deal with. You have to be careful in how you respond to these customers and not make yourself or company look bad by something you said or handled wrong in the public eye.

Marketing From the Inside


Working in the restaurant industry I have come to realize how important the employees are when it comes to marketing. These are the people who are trusted to make the sales and give the customers an experience they will want to come back for again and again. Especially in the service sector, employees should be considered the top marketing tools a company can have.

Your advertising is important. The radio commercials giving location and hours, the T.V. commercials showing what you do, and the coupons and flyers showing specials; this all brings the customers in the door then it is up to your employees to deliver above and beyond to give the customer that unexpected experience. This relationship marketing is a key concept for employees to understand and be motivated to deliver consistently to bring those customers back again and again.

When the employees are happy with the work environments and believe in the company’s mission and support their vision this shows through to the customers. The employees are more motivated to build that relationship with their customers and give them that experience that they keep coming back for building your brand and name with everyone.

Introduction to Rum

I would like to take a little time to introduce you to the vast world of rum. This category of spirits is very wide and vast. I still have lots to learn myself about this amazing spirit. The definition of rum is: Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in oak barrels. The one thing that I have found is that most people who tell me that they do not like rum has only tried one or two of the popular bar rums and have no idea of the choices that they could have if they only gave it a real try. I believe that there is a perfect rum for everyone and I am making my mission to find yours.

The diversity of rum comes from the fact that every rum making nation has their own rules, regulations, customs, and cultures that are interwoven into their production process. For me rum has a style for every occasion and mood. From the crisp white rum to the golden rum to the dark and spiced rums it is hard not to find one that fits your mood and occasion.

From the Bottom Up

This blog will be an ongoing project to help create, design, and marketing a Rum Specialty Bar called The Sunken Pirate.

After graduation my husband and I will be working toward opening our own business. We want to own a bar and grill within the next 3 years we expect to be able to buy a bar. After some thought we have decided that we want to a have a rum specialty bar, so who better likes rum more than pirates.
